: 어려움에 직면했을 때 단호하게 행동하는 방법을 알다. 

 

✒️  El auditorio entero se quedó sin luz y el director de la orquestra, bajo la mirada de más de 2000 personas, iluminó  sus partituras con la linterna del móvil para continuar con el concierto. A carne de lobo, diente de perro.

→ The entire auditorium went dark and the orchestra conductor, under the gaze of over 2000 people, lit up his sheet music with his phone flashlight to continue the concert. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

→ 객석 전체에 불이 나갔고, 오케스트라 지휘자는 2,000여 명의 관객이 지켜보는 가운데 휴대폰 전등으로 자신의 악보를 비추며 연주를 이어갔다. 그 상황에서 어떻게 행동해야 하는지 안다.

🤔 When the going gets tough, the tough get going. 미국 속담: 상황이 어려워지면 강한 사람은 더 적극적으로 움직인다.

auditorio: nm. auditorium, audience, public, crowd, music hall
Nunca he cantado ante un auditorio. → I have never sung in front of an audience.
entero: a. whole, entire, at large
Me comí la pizza entera porque tenía hambre. → I ate the whole pizza because I was hungry.
La casa entera necesita arreglos. → The entire house requires repairs.
La ciudad entera elegirá un número específico de representantes. → The city at large will elect a specific number of representatives.
iluminar: v. illuminate, light
Usé velas para iluminar la habitación. → I used candles to light the room.
partitura: nf. score, sheet music 악보, 총보
La partitura está escrita en do bemol. → The score is written in C flat.

 

Quien come la carne, que roa el hueso.

: (직역) He who eats the meat, let him gnaw the bone.

: Accept the discomforts of something when you enjoy its benefits.

: 무언가를 선택했다면, 그에 따르는 결과를 받아들여야 한다. 

 

✒️ Quisiste mudarte al centro de la ciudad, ahora no te quejes del ruido de los coches. Quien come la carne, que roa el hueso.

→ You wanted to move to the city center, now don't complain about the noise of the cars. Who eats the meat, must gnaw the bone.

→ 너는 도심으로 이사하고 싶어했다. 자동차 소음에 불평하지 마라. 너의 선택과 그에 따르는 결과를 받아들여라.

quejarse: v. complain (de; about, of), moan, groan, whine, beef(불평을 하다)
Mi hijo siempre se queja cuando tiene que irse a la cama. → My son always complains when he has to go to bed.
Mi hijo siempre se queja del colegio. → My son is always beefing about school.
Mi hijo se queja cuando le pongo verduras. → My son moans when I serve him vegetables.
ruido: nm. sound, rumble, rustling
El ruido del tráfico es bastante fuerte cerca de la avenida. → The sound of traffic is quite loud near the avenue.

 

Cerveza y vino 맥주와 와인

Vino y cerveza, dolor de cabeza.
Cerveza y vino, puntillo divino.

: (직역) Wine and beer, headache.; Beer and wine, divine touch.

: The order of the factors does matter.

: 🤔 구글링을 해 보았는데 은유적인 다른 의미가 있는지 찾지 못했다. Lingolia에서는 factor들의 순서가 중요하다고 설명을 하고 있는데, 찾아본 예문들이나 설명에서는 어떤 인자들의 순서보다는 단순히 와인과 맥주를 짬뽕해서 마시면 숙취가 심하다는 내용만 있었다. 일단 "와인과 맥주를 짬뽕해서 마시지 마라"로 알고 있자.

 😮 혹시나 해서 구글링을 더 해 보았고 아래와 같은 기사를 찾았다. 그런데 놀랍게도 술을 짬뽕하는 것과 숙취와는 별 상관관계가 없다는 결론이 나왔다고 한다.

✒️ Si has empezado tomando vino, mejor que ahora no cambies a cerveza: vino y cerveza, dolor de cabeza. 

→ If you started drinking wine, you'd better not switch to beer now: wine and beer, headache.

→ 네가 만약 와인을 마시기 시작했다면, 맥주를 마시지 않는 게 좋다. 숙취로 머리가 아플 것이다. 

empezar: v. start, begin, get started, commence, take off
Los preparativos para la boda empezaron pronto. → The preparation for the wedding started early.
Una vez que empiezo, nada puede detenerme. → Once I get started, nothing can stop me.
Mi progreso empezó de verdad en cuanto recibí ayuda. → My progress really took off once I got help.
cambiar: v. switch, replace, exchange, shift, alter, trade, swap
Cambié de banco para conseguir una mejor tasa de interés. → I switched banks to get a better interest rate.
Una de las tejas se rompió y tuve que cambiarla. → One of the tiles broke and I had to replace it.
Cambié mis euros cuando llegué a Australia. → I exchanged my euros when I arrived in Australia.
El partido cambió sus prioridades durante la campaña electoral. → The party shifted its priorities during the electoral campaign.
Cambié mi colección de monedas por una cámara nueva. → I traded my coin collection for a new camera.

 

El agua, como buey y el vino, como rey.

: (직역) Water, like ox and wine, like king.

: You have to make use of things in their right measure.

: 무엇이든 적절히, 적당히 해야 한다는 표현; 황소에게 처럼 물은 생명 유지에 필수적이고, 왕처럼 와인은 적당히 즐겨야 한다는 의미임

 

✒️ A mi padre le gusta mucho la carne pero nada las verduras. El médico le ha dicho que tiene que regular su dieta: el agua, como buey y el vino, como rey.

→ My father loves meat but hates vegetables. The doctor told him he needs to regulate his diet: water, like a bull, and wine, like a king.

→ 나의 아버지는 고기를 무척 좋아하는데 야채는 싫어하신다. 의사는 아버지에게 식사를 조절해야 한다고 했다. 무엇이든 적당히, 적절하게 해야 한다. 

verdura: nf. vegetable, verduras = vegetables
Ensarté las verduras en pinchos de metal. → I threaded the vegetables onto metal skewers.
El nuevo supermercado ofrece un gran surtido de verduras. → The new supermarket offers a large selection of vegetables.
médico: nm. doctor, physician
Los médicos se comprometieron con la comunidad para promover hábitos saludables. → The doctors engaged with the community to promote healthy habits.
El médico observó una mejoría en la condición del paciente. → The physician noted an improvement in the patient's condition.
dieta: nf. diet
Aunque estoy a dieta, de vez en cuando me como un helado. → Although I am on a diet, I occasionally eat an ice cream.
Una dieta saludable es la mejor defensa contra varias enfermedades. → A healthy diet is the best defense against several diseases.
rey: nm. king, 왕
buey: nm. ox, 황소

: 어떤 결과이든 그로 인한 원인이 있다. 우리 속담으로는 "콩심은 데 콩 나고, 팥 심은 데 팥 난다." 정도?

 

✒️ A Lucas le ha subido mucho el colesterol desde que come comida rápida todos los días en el trabajo. De tal cepa, tal vino. 

→ Lucas' cholesterol has gone up a lot since he eats fast food every day at work. Like vine, like wine.

→ 루카스의 콜레스테롤 수치는 최근 급격히 올라갔다. 그는 직장에서 매일 패스트푸드를 먹었다. 콩심은 데 콩 나고 팥 심은 데 팥 난다.

subir: v. upload, raise, go up, rise, increase, turn up, get up
Mucha gente sube fotos a las redes sociales. → Many people upload pictures to social networks.
El fabricante mejoró el producto y subió su precio. → The manufacturer improved the product and raised its price.
El orador subió al escenario y dio un discurso. → The speaker went up on stage and delivered a speech.
El nivel del agua había subido después de la lluvia. → The water level had risen after the rain.
El gráfico muestra que las ventas han subido este mes. → The chart shows that sales have increased this month.
Subí el volumen de la televisión para escuchar las noticias. → I turned the TV volume up in order to hear the news.
cepa: nf. strain 종, vine 포도나무
La vacuna contiene tres cepas del virus de la gripe. → The vaccine contains three strains of the flu virus.

 

patata 감자

Donde no hay mata, no hay patata.

: (직역) Where there is no bush, there is no potato.

: You can't expect a result if you haven't done anything to make it happen.

: 열심히 노력하지 않으면서 결과를 기대하지 마라. 성공을 위해서는 최선을 다해야 한다.(열심히 노력해야 한다.)

 

✒️ A Mateo le da envidia que Sabrina toque mejor que él el cajón, pero lo cierto es que él no practica nada con el instrumento. Donde no hay mata, no hay patata. 

→ Mateo is envious that Sabrina plays the cajon better than him, but the truth is that he doesn't practice with the instrument at all. Where there is no plant, there is no potato.

→ 마테오는 사브리나가 그보다 더 잘 카혼을 연주하는 것을 부러워 한다. 사실 그는 카혼 연습을 하지 않았다. 열심히 노력하지 않으면서 성공을 바라지 마라.

envidia: nf. envy, jealousy
A pesar de su éxito, nunca he tenido envidia de mi hermano. → Despite his success, I have never felt envy for my brother.
tocar: v. play, touch, perform, tap, feel, blow, ring, sound
Estoy aprendiendo a tocar el piano. → I am learning to play piano.
Tienes que tocar la pantalla para iniciar el juego. → You need to touch the screen to start the game.
El grupo va a tocar en un bar local. → The band is going to perform at a local bar.
Toqué el hombro de mi amiga para llamar su atención.  →I tapped my friend's shoulder to get her attention.
Toqué la arena con las manos. → I felt the sand with my hands.
cajón: nm. cajon 카혼(악기), drawer, box, tray
La secretaria guardó los documentos en el primer cajón del escritorio. The secretary put the documents in the top desk drawer.
mata: nf. bush, cluster, shrub

 

Pescado 생선

Por la boca muere el pez.

: (직역) By the mouth dies the fish.

: A call for discretion, not to speak without thinking.

: 말을 할 때는 항상 신중해야 한다. 생각없이 경솔하게 말하지 마라.

 

✒️ Mi hermano siempre habla mal de los vecinos y a través de nuestras paredes se escucha todo. Por la boca muere el pez.

→ My brother is always talking bad about the neighbors, and through our walls, we can hear everything. The fish dies by its mouth.

→ 나의 형은 이웃에 대해 항상 험담을 한다. 우리는 벽을 넘어 모든 것을 들을 수 있다. 우리는 항상 말을 조심해야 한다.

a través de: prep. through, across, by means of, via
La luz del sol pasa a través del cristal. → Sunlight passes through glass.
Mi familia hizo un viaje a través del país. → My family took a trip across the country.
La maestra explicó el ejercicio a través de un ejemplo. → The teacher explained the exercise by means of an example.
La empresa vende productos exclusivamente a través de internet. → The company sells products solely via the Internet.
morir: v. die, pass away
El artista ha muerto, pero su legado artístico sobrevive. → The artist has died, but his artistic legacy lives on.
pez: nm. fish

 

A río revuelto, ganancia de pescadores.

: (직역) A river in turmoil is a river of fishermen's gain.

: There are those who profit from confusing and unfair situations.

: 혼란스럽고 불공평한 상황에서도 이득을 취하는 자가 있다.

 

✒️ Esta casa estuvo abandonada muchos años y finalmente un banco se ha apropió y la puso a la venta. A río revuelto, ganancia de pescadores. 

→ This house was abandoned for many years, and finally a bank took it over and put it up for sale. A river in turmoil, gain for fishermen.

→ 이 집은 수년 동안 버려져 있었다. 결국 은행이 매입을 해서 매물로 내놓았다.  소용돌이치는 강에서 어부는 수확을 한다.

abandonado: a. pp. abandoned, left
La policía siguió la pista de las joyas robadas hasta un edificio abandonado. → The police tracked the stolen jewels to an abandoned building.
apropiarse: v. appropriate
apropiarse de algo = appropriate sth. take ownership of sth. 취득하다. 
La moda a menudo se apropia de símbolos sociales y culturales. Fashion often appropriates social and cultural symbols.
revuelto: a. scrambled, messy, turbulent
a habitación de mi hijo siempre está revuelta y desordenada. → My son's bedroom is always messy and untidy.
revolver: v. mess sth. up, shuffle, scramble
Mi hijo dejó sus juguetes tirados y revolvió el salón. → My child left his toys around and messed up the living room.
El trabajador intentó parecer ocupado revolviendo sus documentos. → The worker tried to look busy by shuffling his documents.
Revolví los huevos en la sartén con una espátula. → I scrambled the eggs in the pan with a spatula.
ganancia: nf. gain, profit
Gracias al aumento de ventas, la ganancia fue considerable. → Due to the increased sales, the gain was considerable.

 

 

El pez grande se come al chico.

: (직역) The big fish eats the small fish.

: Someone abuses his power over someone else.

: 큰 물고기가 작은 물고기를 잡아먹다 → 자신의 권력을 다른 사람에게 남용하다.

 

✒️ Los trabajadores abandonaron la huelga después de que la empresa amenazara con despedirlos. Un claro ejemplo de que el pez grande se come al chico.

→ The workers abandoned the strike after the company threatened to fire them. A clear example of the big fish eating the small.

→ 회사가 해고하겠다고 협박하자 노동자들은 파업을 포기했다. 큰 물고기가 작은 물고기를 잡아먹는 확실한 사례이다.

trabajador: nm. worker, employee, laborer
El agricultor contrató a una veintena de trabajadores. → The farmer employed a score of workers.
Todos los trabajadores han contribuido al éxito de nuestra empresa. → All employees have contributed to the success of our company.
huelga: nf. strike, industrial action
Los maestros hicieron huelga para protestar contra los recortes presupuestarios. → The teachers went on strike to protest budget cuts.
La empresa apresuró las negociaciones salariales para prevenir una huelga. → The company rushed salary negotiations to prevent a strike.
amenazar: v. threaten, menace, jeopardise
La contaminación amenaza la flora de la región.  →Pollution threatens the flora of the region.
La lluvia intensa está amenazando la salud de nuestros campos.  →Heavy rain is menacing the health of our fields.
despedir: v. dismiss, fire, lay off, discharge, release
Nuestra jefa nunca despidió a nadie sin un buen motivo. → Our boss never dismissed anyone without a good reason.
El jefe decidió no despedir a sus empleados. → The boss decided not to fire his employees.
El nuevo jefe no quería despedir a ningún trabajador. → The new boss did not want to lay off any workers.
