¿Alguna vez has escuchado hablar de la ley de Murphy? Esa que la gente cita cuando, contra todo pronóstico, algo sale mal. La ley de Murphy dice que si algo malo puede pasar, pasará; y aunque puede sonar pesimista, si prestas atención te darás cuenta de que esta ley se cumple incluso en situaciones muy simples de la vida diaria. 

 

Por ejemplo, la tostada que se te cae al suelo exactamente por el lado de la mantequilla; o cuando estás en el banco y eliges la fila más corta, pero termina siendo la más lenta: o cuando por fin te acuerdas de llevar el paraguas porque ha llovido durante varios días, pero precisamente ese día no llueve. En fin, podría seguir con los ejemplos y no acabaría nunca.

 

He sacado este tema a colación porque recientemente viví en carne propia una situación inusual que me hizo pensar en este tipo de coincidencias a las que la ley de Murphy hace referencia. Resulta que necesitaba renovar mi pasaporte con urgencia, pues ya habían pasado los diez años de validez que tiene este documento y tenía que viajar.

 

Llamé a la oficina encargada de este proceso y me dieron una cita para la semana siguiente. Yo me pongo nervioso en esas citas pues soy algo vanidoso y me gusta quedar bien en las fotos para los documentos. En fin, lo increíble de esta historia es que la noche anterior a la cita tuve una reacción alérgica muy fuerte, quizás por el polvo o el polen, no lo sé.

 

El hecho es que empecé a estornudar descontroladamente, me picaban los ojos y la nariz y tuve que levantarme e ir al baño varias veces a lavarme la cara. Al día siguiente me miré en el espejo y no podía creer lo que veía, tenía los ojos hinchados, ¡qué horror! A pesar de ello, no tuve otro remedio que ir a la cita así, pues necesitaba el nuevo pasaporte para mi viaje.

 

Ya os podéis imaginar como quedé em la foto, casi ni me reconozco. Entonces me pregunto, ¿Fue la ley de Murphy? ¿o fue un castigo divino por ser tan vanidoso? No lo sé, lo único que sé es que durante los próximos diez años miraré la foto en mi pasaporte y recordaré esa extraña e incómoda coincidencia.
