Una de las cosas que más me gusta hacer es viajar, me encanta ser el turista despistado que se sorprende a cada paso con cosas que los locales ya ni vuelven a mirar. Cuando visito una nueva ciudad o un pueblito me gusta explorar sus callejuelas y salirme un poco de las rutas más turísticas, pues siento que son más auténticas y me permiten hacerme una idea más realista de la vida cotidiana de los lugareños. 

 

y no me malinterpretes, también me gusta visitar los monumentos y atracciones turísticas más icónicas de los sitios que visito, pero me he dado cuenta de que a menudo hay lugares maravillosos que no aparecen en las guías de viaje y, por lo tanto, siempre que tenga tiempo suficiente, intento callejear fuera de las zonas más populares y hablar con la gente de los bares y mercadillos que encuentro a mi paso.

 

Cuando viajo a otro país me apasiona adentrarme en su cultura y sus tradiciones, visitar sus lugares sagrados y disfrutar de su gastronomía, pues busco experimentar la vida tal cual lo hacen las personas que viven allí; al hacer esto siento que puedo ver la vida con otros ojos, desde otra perspectiva y ello me enriquece y me hace más tolerante y más humano.

 

En realidad, más que un turista me considero un viajero y, como tal, me preparo muy bien antes de ir al siguiente destino. Trato de empaparme de la historia del lugar, leyendo libros, mirando vídeos o escuchando pódcasts, pues he descubierto que disfruto mucho más de mi viaje si conozco de antemano los acontecimientos más relevantes que han dado fama y forma a ese sitio.

 

Por ejemplo, no es lo mismo entrar a una catedral solo porque sí, o porque es una atracción más en la lista, que entrar allí porque conoces la historia detrás de su arquitectura, su arte y su fe; solo así llegas a apreciar realmente lo que está frente a tus ojos. Ya llega de nuevo el verano y no veo la hora de hacer las maletas y emprender el viaje rumbo a mi próximo destino. ¿A dónde crees que iré esta vez?
