He escuchado decir que la mejor forma de vencer nuestros miedos es enfrentándonos a ellos, sin embargo, ayer tuve una experiencia que podría contradecir dicha idea. No sé si os he contado antes, pero le tengo fobia a las arañas; desde mi infancia me han causado repelús y es que solo con pensar en ellas se me ponen los pelos de punta.
Personalmente, yo nunca había conocido a alguien sin esta fobia y mucho menos que quisiera tenerlas como mascota… bueno, eso hasta ayer por la tarde. Resulta que mi jefe me pidió que fuera a casa de Alberto, uno de nuestros nuevos clientes, para concretar algunos asuntos importantes con él.
Cuando llegué a su casa me recibió muy amablemente y de inmediato nos pusimos manos a la obra con los asuntos del trabajo. Cuando terminamos, Alberto me invitó a conocer su casa y a tomar un café. Una de las cosas que llamó mi atención fue un terrario que tenía en la sala, y decidí preguntarle para qué lo usaba; me dijo que tenía una tarántula de mascota pues le gustaban las arañas. Yo me esperaba todo menos esa respuesta; le dije que les tenía pavor y que toda mi vida había tenido aracnofobia, a lo cual el respondió que no había nada que temer pues no son animales peligrosos y se ofreció a enseñármela.
Yo quería salir corriendo de allí pero no quería parecer un gallina, además, pensé que era una buena oportunidad para superar mi fobia. Cuando Alberto me preguntó si quería sostener la tarántula en mis manos me armé de valor y le dije que sí.
Para resumir la historia, la araña empezó a moverse más rápido de lo que yo esperaba por mi brazo y en un plis plas la tenía encima de mi cabeza, esto me asustó muchísimo y empecé a gritar como loco para que Alberto me la quitara.
¡Qué susto!, por poco me da un infarto y Alberto casi se muere de risa. Por eso os digo, no siempre es necesario o inteligente enfrentarte a tus miedos.
