눈, Ojo

▶ Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente: out of sight, out of mind

: 

✒️Se ha roto la taza favorita de mi hermana. Pues no se lo digas. Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente.

→ My sister's favorite mug is broken. So don't tell her. Out of sight, out of mind.

 

▶ ¡no es nada lo del ojo! (ironic) → it’s no big deal!

- romper: v. break (up), crack, smash
   romper의 과거분사형은 두 가지를 취할 수 있음: roto/rompido
- taza: nf. cup

 

▶ a ojo de buen cubero: hacer las cosas por aproximación 

: roughly, 대략적으로, 짐작으로

✒️ Mi madre ha repartido la paella a ojo de buen cubero. → My mother has divided the paella roughly.

✒️ no hace falta medir la harina, échala a ojo (de buen cubero) →  There’s no need to weigh out the flour, just add roughly the right amount

- repartir: v. divide (up), share (out), give out
  los estudiantes están repartidos en cuatro grupos → the students are divided into four groups
- medir: measure, gauge, survey, weigh up
  medir algo por millas → to measure sth in miles  

 

입, Boca

▶ (salir) a pedir de boca: algo sale bien o como se había planeado

: 계획대로 잘 진행되다. 

✒️La fiesta de cumpleaños salió a pedir de boca. → The birthday party went off without a hitch(술술, 거침없이).

- cumpleaños: nm. birthday, anniversary
  Mi esposo me regaló un collar por mi cumpleaños. → My husband gave me a necklace for my birthday.

 

▶ hacerse la boca agua: algo está muy rico

: 정말 맛있다. 입에 침이 고인다

✒️ ¡Qué bien huele ese guiso! Se me está haciendo la boca agua. → How good that stew smells! My mouth is watering.

✒️ se me hace la boca agua solo de pensar en la sopa → just thinking about the soup makes my mouth water 

- huele: v. oler 동사의 3인칭 단수, smell
  huele a tabaco → it smells of cigarette smoke
  aquí huele a quemado → there’s a smell of burning in here

 

▶ por la boca muere el pez: hablar mucho al final puede ser contraproducente

: 말이 많으면 결과가 좋지 않다. 침묵이 금이다. 

✒️Deberías ser más prudente al hablar y no contar tantas intimidades de la gente. Ya sabes que por la boca muere el pez. → You should be more prudent when talking and not tell so many intimacies about people. You know that silence is golden.

- prudente: a. prudent 신중한
- intimidad: nf. intimacy, privacy
- muere: v. morir 동사의 현재 3인칭 단수, die

 

귀, Oreja

▶ comer la oreja a alguien: molestar a alguien hablando/intentar persuadir a alguien

: 말을 해서 누군가를 귀찮게 하다. 누군가를 설득하다. 

✒️ Siempre estás hablando de tu novia. Deja ya de comerme la oreja. → You're always talking about your girlfriend. Stop annoying me.

- novia: nf. girlfriend, bride, fiancée
- novio: nm. boyfriend, groom, fiancé

 

머리카락, Pelo

▶ por los pelos: casi/por poco

: 간신히, 가까스로, by the skin of one's teeth

✒️ He aprobado el examen por los pelos. → I passed the exam by the skin of my teeth.

✒️ pasó el examen por los pelos → he passed the exam by the skin of his teeth

- aprobar: v. pass, approve
el parlamento aprobó el tratado the treaty was approved or endorsed by Parliament
- examen: nm. examination, exam, consideration, search
tras el examen de la situación → after studying the situation
